Many years ago my father received 4 locomotives and some rail cars
as a gift from his parents and now these items were pass down to
me. Since I am using Märklin equipment the items which were
passed down to me would not work on my existing system since it
was a Trix Express system.
I thought it would be interesting to see what it would take to
convert them in order to run on a Märklin system. I have converted
a BR24 steam locomotive and a V36 diesel locomotive so far.
Both items are digitally controlled. Below are some photos of the
V36 after it was converted from Trix Express to a format compatible
for Märklin systems.
Conversion of the units involved replacing the motor, wheels, pickup
shoe and adding a decoder for digital operation. The process is
slow and the results are rather impressive for only making use of
3 pole DC motors.
